We are surrounded by a sea of energy that is described as ‘the life force’ in western countries, or universal energy. In Japan, it is referred to as Ki, and in China Qi, or Chi. Each culture has a name for the subtle energies that surround us. Our body is also a bundle of power. We can become aware of how this energy helps in a positive way or hinders us in a negative way. These subtle energies we can learn to become appreciative of, and this can help us in balancing physical, psychological and spiritual health on a regular basis.

How often do we stop and give our thanks and gratitude to the small things in our lives; or to the people that surround us and help us? Being grateful decreases stress enhances well-being and leads us to a positive outlook in life.
I would like to thank our fantastic Emergency Services, the ambulance service, the fire brigade, the police service, rescue workers and all the other services that are out there in our community ready for action? As individuals, we probably do not think about them very often until we see something on the news, or we are driving, and we have to give way to the blue lights that are flashing on the motorway, or we see, perhaps, an ambulance at our neighbour’s home. A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: GOAL SETTING WITH POSITIVE INTENTION
The beginning of a new year I imagine as a book, each day is a fresh page and each month a new chapter of the book. We write our own story each day by choosing what we are going to do, by setting goals or how we are going to be. I first came across the concept of setting positive intention when I became a complementary therapist in 1987 and chose to help others in a way that empowered them – this continues today. When I read Dr Brenda Davies book ‘The Journey of the Soul’, in 2002, she states ‘Our intention is very powerful in bringing to the forefront of our consciousness what we really want and intend to have in our lives’.
